What are the Main Causes of Poor TV Reception

Below is listed the most common causes of poor TV reception. I have broken them into 2 sub-sections.

Environmental Factors

1. an obstacle in the way e.g. a Hill, large / tall building etc means there is just no signal
   • try to boost signal but sometimes it is just not possible (why many people end up on Sky satellite)

Equipment or Human Factors

1. the wrong TV Aerial e.g. have the wrong group UHF TV Aerial -
   • Choose the correct TV aerial for your location - see map of TV Transmitters
2. the TV cable is incorrectly at say the UHF TV aerial or the back of the TV
   • check you have put on the TV connectors correctly
3. the TV aerial in the attic - this will cause you to loose about 50% of the signal
   • is it an option to move this TV aerial outside ?
4. the TV aerial is misaligned or has the wrong polarization
   • look at the see Map of Digital TV Transmitters and look at your neighbours house
5. using an unpowered TV splitter when the signal is just not strong enough
   • Using either a TV distribution Amplifier or a TV Aerial Masthead amplifier & TV Aerial Power unit to boost the signal which can all be found under TV Signal Distribution
