Google annouced their annual results today with a list of top ten search terms for a host of categories from entertainment, celebrities, fastest growing terms, sports, travel etc.
An interesting results was in the ‘fastest growing term’ category where Saorview came 4th. This is indeed good news for the whole digital tv switchover process as it shows that more and more people are going online to find out all about Saorview.
Another interesting statistic to come out today is that 80% of irish people are aware of the Digital TV Switch Over, however only 35% are actually aware when it is happening (Oct 2012).
Over all, it’s good news though and the publicity drive by the powers that be have really helped in getting the word out there. They will need to up their game further in 2012 as the switchover approaches, to ensure no one gets left behind.

 Get Ready for the Digital Switch Over It has been announced today by Minister for Communications, Pat Rabbitte, that the date for the old Analogue TV signal to be turned off will be October 24th 2012. This announcement has been a while in coming but finally it is here and now people can plan ahead for the Analogue Switch Off.
It has also been announced that Uncle Gaybo (Gay Byrne) will spearhead the publicity campaign for the Digital Switch Over. It will be good to see a familiar face promoting this as I’m not really sure how effective poor auld Tommy and PJ (the cartoon dog and cat) were.
Anyway the basic facts are that from October 2012, if you are using an aerial to receive the Irish channels in your home, whether it be for the main TV or perhaps a television set in a bedroom or kitchen, then you will either have to upgrade your TV to a Saorview Approved iDTV Integrated Digital Television or Saorview Compatible (Mpeg4 & HD) Televison or the cheaper option will be to keep your old TV and simply purchase a Saorview Approved or Saorview Compatible Set Top Box.
The new Digital TV Signal known as Saorview, will have 8 channels initially on it and if your set top box has Mheg5, you can also access the new Digital Teletext from RTE.  Watch the 2011 Rugby World Cup in HD on Saorview RTE has just announced over 130 hours of coverage for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. This will be spread across TV, Radio and Online platforms. The good news for TV viewers is that there will be 13 Key games shown from the World Cup on Saorview and the even better news is that it will be shown in High Definition on RTE2 HD.
So for the best seat in the house (unlike our friend above!!!), make sure you have either a

RTE have announce this week that for the first time the Tipperarly versus Cork Munster Hurling Championship Quarter Final will be show in HD on Saorview. This is part of their triple sporting treat this weekend which also offers both the Magners league final and also the champions league final in HD (source RTE guide).
After Tipperary’s historic victory over the 5-in-a-row chasing Kilkenny, Cork will be out to put theie neighbours back in their box. Tipperary will be well up for the challenge though, remembering the pummeling thery received at the hands of Cork in the early stages of the championship last year. It was this defeat, ironically that most people believe set Tipperary on the road to becoming All Ireland Champions, bringing them down to earth and focusing the minds of both players and coaching staff.
Whatever the outcome on Sunday, it’s sure to be a great game and made even better with the addition of a Saorview Box to enable the avid GAA supporter to enjoy the experience in crystal clear high definition.

Another sporting coup for RTE this weekend is the confirmation that the 2011 Champions league Final between Manchester United and Barcelona is to be show in high definition on RTE2 HD. Saorview really is the only game in town this weekend as regards sporting fixtures in HD. In the previous blog, I mentioned the impending Magners league final but in reality the biggie (Maybe not for Rugger or GAA heads) is the Champions league Final.
The final pairing of Man Utd and Barcelona is really the dream final that most people wanted and after the unusually wasy win United had in the semi final over Shalke and Barcelona ill tempered and oscar nominated performance against Real Madrid, hopefully this will live up to the hype and expectations.

Leinster, after having won the Heineken Cup last weekend in one of the most thrilling comebacks in recent memory will be bouyed by their success and sureley have to momentum going in to the regional clash. Munster have had the upperhand for years and leinster had been seen as the D$ softies but that is cetainly no longer the case. Will leinster stick another nail in the Munster coffin and make it a clean sweep for the Blues?

 Walker WP12DTB-R Saorview Box Just to let you folks know that the Walker WP12DTB-R will hit our shelves from Wednesday of next week (6/4/11). It is the latest evolution of Walker’s Saorview Boxes and the new model comes with PVR features this time (with the addition of an external hard drive). It is priced slightly cheaper than it’s competitors. Once we physically lay our hands on one, we will do up the usual video guides and manuals so you can get a lookey see at the box. There is a possibility that we may have it even soon so keep an eye out on the website to see when we have it in stock.

 Triax TR12 Saorview Set Top Box Good news reached us today. The eagerly anticipated arrival of the Triax TR112 Saorview Set Top Box is finally upon us. The boxes have landed in Ireland today. There is an initial batch of 300 that we specially flown in ahead of the arrival of the first major batch. We will have a very limited quantity (<50) of TR112s so it’s first come first served.
From initial reports it looks like the real deal. Saorview approved with an intergrated media player and it’s PVR ready aswell (with the addition of an external HDD). It is pricier than the other Saorview boxes on the market but not prohibitively so.
Once we have the boxes in our warehouse, we will do up the usual video guides, so even if you miss out in the initial rush, you can have a lookey-see, to find out what all the fuss is about.
Salivating at the prospects of getting our hand on it.

Finally there will be competition in the Saorview Set Top Box market shortly. The first Triax TR112 Saorview Approved Receivers will hit the shelves in Ireland during the next week. This is a very welcome announcement as presently there is a very limited choice for consumers in Ireland.
Not to be funny but by the release of this new Saorview Approved Box, the competition has doubled! In fairness, we should really have more choice when it comes to how we choose to recieve Saorview but in reality our limited sized population makes it unactractive to manufactures to get involved in this and that why it is so important that a well respected and trusted household name like Triax has chosen to enter the Saorview market and especially go through the exhaustive independent Saorview Approval process. This really is great news and will be welcomed with open arms by those in the industry and TV viewers.
