Why did this happen ?
- BBC has changed the transponder it uses for certain channels
Which channels have been affected ?
A range of BBC channels and their regional variations have been effected. From an Irish prespective the main channels are:
- BBC 1 Northern Ireland
- BBC 2 Northern Ireland
- BBC 4 / CBeebies
*Note BBC 1, 2 London are unaffected – found around channel # 65, 66
How do I tune the Channels back in ?
In the Example below I list how to tune the back in these channels on Triax SR110. But the procedure is basically the same for all Free to air satellite receivers.
- Note: covered in the video but not in the instructions here is steps to delete any channels that have gone missing for the list.
- Press ‘Menu’ button
- Scroll down and select ‘Installation’ option
- Enter Password ‘0000′
- Select ‘TP Scan’
- Type in Frequency, Polarity, Symbol and Specify ‘Free’ Channels only
Channel Frequency Polarity Symbol rate BBC 1 Northern Ireland 10,817 Vertical 22000 BBC 2 Northern Ireland 10,817 Vertical 22000 BBC 4 / BCeebies 10,803 Horizontal 22000 BBC 1 Wales 10,788 Vertical 22000 BBC 2 Wales 10,788 Vertical 22000 - Select ‘Search’
- Additional channels are added to the end of the channel list.
- Exit out of installation menu and check new list and sort as desired (covered in the video).
Fixes for Boxes with USB Ports
Note for all boxes sold by TVTrade.ie that we come with a USB port we have uploaded an updated channel s/w file e.g.
- Argus Edision Combo Satellite Receiver
- Argus Piccollo HD Satellite Receiver
- Smart MX04HD High Definition Receiver
Just go the links above and click on the ‘Attachments’ tab and download the new channel list file.
Will this happen again & How do I prevent it ?
This is quite an usual problem. The BBC have not changed their frequencies in about 6 or 7 years, but it is a very big problem as there is probably about 5-10 million generic Free to air satellite receivers in the UK and Ireland which have been effected.
One way to prevent this would be to use an offical freesat receiver which will come with automatic channel updating.

Hi, we have a Triax TX 10 CI free to air sat, I have tried your suggestion above, however i’m unable to get the BBC channels back? Any suggestions would be really appreciated!
Thanks

I have never used a TX10, but the channel transponder codes are universal and definitely are correct. You may need to add the transponder code if it is not on list that is pre-programmed into the box.

Can you be more specific – where is it not working, can’t find transponder, search but get no results or not the correct channeels ?

Great info. thanks. But although I got BBC 1 and 2 NI back, I can’t get bbc 3 or 4. Say when I download bbc 4 on tp47, 10803, 22000, horizontal, 5/6, I get cbeebies bbc scotland etc. but no BBC4 . Any ideas?

I think I know the problem – CBeebies turns into BBC4 at 7pm – these are in fact on many receivers one and the same channel. Confusing but true.

Tried this manually with the Argus Edison Mini with limited success. Got everything bar BBC1 and 2 NI. Then downloaded the software update from your link. This got me all the channels but when I checked BBC1 and BBC2 NI the frequency is 10818 and not 10817 as per your table above – hence my confusion.
Comment by Ben — October 27, 2010 @ 9:06 pm
Hi this frequency I took from a different box & can vary from box to box but should successfully tune with either code but yes I would say the 10818 is the official frequency.

We previously obtained the BBC/ITV channels using ASTRA2/Eurobird (28.2E). The only channel that appears affected for us is BBC4. There are two frequencies for BBC4 identified on ASTRA2/Eurobird (10.773H and 10.803H), but neither of them work.
What do I do?
I WOULD SUGGEST
This should have worked – could be a dish issue but I doubt it. a few suggestion would be to:
Do a full auto scan an it will pullin everything again (check all transponders for you).
If it is one of our boxes just download the channel list software from our website and upload onto your box.
you could googel “lyngsat astra 2″ and check channel frequencies

No, its not the dish. And I don’t have one of your boxes (receiver).
I had re-installed (scanned) the satellite on the receiver before sending my first message without any luck. Just get a black screen.
I googled lyngsat astra 2 and it shows a frequency of 10803 H which is where I find the name (BBC Four), but no picture or sound. Maybe its not on that particular Astra2 satellite. If so, its strange that I would get the BBC Four name at the correct frequency, but not the picture. I live in Belgium, but that shouldn’t be an issue since all the other BBC and ITV channels are available on that satellite.
